ಹವ್ಯಕ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ದಿ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾಸ್ (HAA) ನ 21ನೇ ದ್ವೈವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಪ್ರಯುಕ್ತ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಗುವ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಸ್ಮರಣಸಂಚಿಕೆ "ಹವ್ಯಸಿರಿ"ಗಾಗಿ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

We warmly invite submissions for "Havyasiri", the commemorative issue being published for the 21st Biennial HAA Convention.

📜Submission Guidelines:

  1. Articles should not exceed 3 pages (approximately 1,500 words).
  2. Submissions must be original works and must not have been published elsewhere, in print or digital form.
  3. A maximum of three (3) photographs may be submitted with each article.
  4. All photographs will be printed in grayscale; please ensure images are clear and high resolution.
  5. All editorial, publication, and usage rights—including editing, acceptance, rejection, and final presentation—rest solely with the Havyasiri Editorial Committee.

Havyasiri 2026 - Short Story Competition

ಹವ್ಯಕ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ದಿ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾಸ್ (HAA) ನ 21ನೇ ದ್ವೈವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಪ್ರಯುಕ್ತ ಹವ್ಯಕರಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಥೆಗಳ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಆಯ್ದ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದ ಸ್ಮರಣಸಂಚಿಕೆ "ಹವ್ಯಸಿರಿ"ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು.

A short story competition has been organized for Havyakas for the 21st Biennial HAA Convention. Selected stories will be published in the commemorative issue "Havyasiri".

📜 ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯ ನಿಯಮಗಳು

  1. ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಲು ಕೊನೆಯ ದಿನಾಂಕ: ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 1, 2026.
    Last date to submit: March 1, 2026.
  2. ಕಥೆ ಕನ್ನಡ/ಹವಿಗನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿರಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು 5 ಪುಟಗಳನ್ನು (2000 ರಿಂದ 2500 ಪದಗಳು) ಮೀರಬಾರದು.
    Story must be in Kannada/Havigannada and should not exceed 5 pages (2000 to 2500 words).
  3. ಕಥೆ ಸ್ವಂತ ರಚನೆಯಾಗಿರಬೇಕು ಹಾಗೂ ಬೇರೆ ಎಲ್ಲೂ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗಿರಬಾರದು.
  4. ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗೆ ಒಂದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸುವ ಹಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅನುವಾದಿತ ಕಥೆಗೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಕಾಶವಿಲ್ಲ.
  5. ಹವ್ಯಸಿರಿ ಸ್ಮರಣ ಸಂಚಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗುವವರೆಗೆ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಬೇರೆಲ್ಲೂ (ಬ್ಲಾಗ್, ಸೋಷಿಯಲ್ ಮೀಡಿಯಾ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ) ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ.
  6. ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಯೂನಿಕೋಡ್ (Unicode) ಫಾರ್ಮಾಟ್ನಲ್ಲಿ, Google doc ಅಥವಾ MS-Word ನಲ್ಲಿ ಫಾಂಟ್ ಸೈಜ಼್ 12 ಬಳಸಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸತಕ್ಕದ್ದು, ಯಾವುದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೂ ಹಸ್ತಪ್ರತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
  7. ಕಥೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಿರುಪರಿಚಯ, ಭಾವಚಿತ್ರ, ಈ-ಮೇಲ್ ವಿಳಾಸ, ದೂರವಾಣಿ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಳಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸತಕ್ಕದ್ದು.
  8. ತೀರ್ಪುಗಾರರ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವೇ ಅಂತಿಮ.
  9. ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹವ್ಯಸಿರಿ ಸ್ಮರಣ ಸಂಚಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸುವ ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸದೆ ಇರುವ ತೀರ್ಮಾನ ಸಂಪಾದಕೀಯ ಸಮಿತಿಯದ್ದಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

Havyasiri 2026 - Essay Writing Competition

For KG, Elementary, Middle School and High School Students

The Havyasiri-2026 Editorial Team invites Havyaka students to participate in our essay writing competition!

🎯Key Information:

  • Who Can Participate: School kids of all ages! We've split participants into three groups based on their school grade.
  • Where to Find Submissions: All essays from all three groups will be published online in Creative Minds and in the digital version of Havyasiri-2026.
  • The Competition Part: Only middle and high school participants will compete for top prizes. Kindergarten and elementary school students will not compete for prizes; however, those who attend the convention will be recognized for their participation. All submitted write-ups will be published in Havyasiri as well as Creative Minds.
  • Winners! We'll announce the winners at the HAA convention in July 2026. Only the winning essays will be printed in the physical copy of Havyasiri-2026.
  • Deadline: All submissions must be turned in by March 1st, 2026.

📋General Submission Guidelines:

  • One original, unpublished essay per participant.
  • Choose one topic appropriate for your grade level.
  • Follow category-specific word and page limits.
  • Formatting: Times New Roman, 12-pt font, single-spaced, justified.
  • Kannada submissions are encouraged.
  • Clearly label your submission with name, grade, category, and city/HAA chapter.
  • Email submissions to .
  • Accepted formats: DOCX or Google Doc with PNG/JPEG for accompanying images, if any.

🎨KG and Elementary School

Submission Format:

  • You may submit a drawing only, a written essay only, or a combination of both.
  • Work with drawings done on paper can be submitted as pictures or photos. A DOCX file is preferred if it is text only.

Tell us about your favorite festival and the delicious Havyaka dishes you enjoy during the celebration!

Describe a festival or party you greatly enjoyed in India with your grandparents and family/friends.

Share your wonderful memories of celebrations in India with your loved ones.

Share a memorable story told to you by your grandparents or other family members in India.

What special story did your grandparents or family tell you that you'll always remember?

Tell us about a math or science concept you use all the time—stuff you learned from your family.

🎓Middle School (Maximum 900 words)

  • Maximum 900 words.
  • If drawings are included, the entire submission must fit within two pages.

Select a Havyaka word, explain its meaning, and describe why it is significant to you (a memory, feeling, or personal experience).

A Havyaka Feeling Beyond English

Discuss a feeling, phrase, or expression that cannot be fully or accurately translated into English. Explain its meaning, its unique Havyaka nature, and how it reflects the community's culture or humor.

Indian Sci-Fi with Modern Technology

Rewrite stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, or Indian history as science fiction using modern technology. Example: Hanuman travels into space using a green-fuel rocket to find rare metals for Jatayu's wings—only to reuse the same rocket to bring him safely back to Earth.

🎓High School (Maximum 1200 words)

Submission Format:

  • Maximum 1200 words.
  • If drawings are included, the entire submission must fit within three pages.
  • For any topic chosen, explain why you selected it.

The Origins of Havyakas

Research the history and migration patterns of the Havyaka community within Karnataka. Where did they originate? Why did they settle in different regions? Which ancient South Indian kingdoms governed these areas?

First Havyaka Settlers in North America

Write about the earliest Havyaka settlers—perhaps your grandparents or earlier pioneers. What brought them here? Did they sail or fly? What challenges did they face? Research, interview people, document their journey, and give them a well-deserved shout-out.

Havyaka Leaders and Contributions

Highlight influential Havyaka individuals who are no longer with us. Focus on their contributions to public service, the independence movement, music, art, governance, or other fields. Justify your choice and reflect on the life lessons we can learn from them.

India's Best Ideas for the World

Choose an Indian concept, practice, or system that could benefit your current country of residence—such as in sustainability, education, governance, lifestyle, or finance. Justify your choice and propose a practical way to implement it.
